This trip is for anyone interested in orcas, humpback whales, Northern lights and spectacular landscapes. The best time of the year for this phenomena is November which provides the balance between light and access to herring and whales is at its best. The winter days in Norway provide excellent light for photography. We will spend the daylight hours looking for whales and other wildlife and snorkel in the crystal clear fjords of Norway.
We aim to provide you the best possible snorkeling experience in a sustainable way. Our ships are equipped with large zodiacs (inflatable boats) and full polar snorkeling gear. Please note that we are always depending on the weather and wildlife for our snorkeling activities.
If you choose not to snorkel, you can enjoy the phenomena from the spacious deck on board the ship or join the zodiac excursions for up-close whale watching and excellent photography opportunities. We might also go ashore to visit some historical fishing villages that are situated in the fjords.
During the darker hours you will enjoy the warm comfort of the expedition yacht while our expert guides entertain you with presentations and educational information on wildlife, and documentary films.
SNORKELING WITH ORCAS
HUMPBACK WHALES
NORTHERN LIGHTS
IN SUPPORT OF THE ORCA RESEARCH TRUST
Our cruises in Northern Norway depart from Tromsø, the gateway to the Arctic, situated 350km above the Arctic circle. Tromsø is easily accessible by plane from most European countries. From here we venture into the fjords on board one of our comfortable expedition vessels to find the most beautiful spots Northern Norway has to offer. We pass snow-capped mountains, remote fishing villages and beautiful islands, while at night we gaze at the skies, hoping to see the dancing Northern Lights.
Humpback whales and orcas have been sighted in large numbers feeding on herring. Scott Portelli and Waterproof Expeditions offers great opportunities for whale watching, photography and snorkeling in the crystal clear Arctic waters, which is an experience in itself!
Scott Portelli is an international award winning wildlife, nature, aerial and underwater photographer. Scott has spent thousands of hours in remote locations across the globe filming and photographing nature, wildlife, and the underwater environment.
